Styled: Fantasy Series Part 4! Royal Victorian

Now for another installment!

Yes, yet another skipped part of this wonderful series!

As we continue to work on these shoots, I feel they are getting better and better. We are really able to find our niche with each shoot and I am really proud to show them to you all. This part of the series is called “Royal Victorian”. Inspired by everything dark, romantic, and royal, we had our very first table set up in this shoot. I think you’ll fall in love with the magical location and romantic look of this shoot just like we did. Oh, and the dress… AMAZE.

ENJOY!!!

Styled: Fantasy Series Part 3! Secret Garden

I’ve recently realized the depth of how terrible of a blogger I’ve become, and frankly, I’m quite ashamed.

As penance for my extreme lack of participation and showing you all what I have done in the last year and a half or so, I will attempt to play a bit of catch up and show you now!

Many of you know (and may have already seen) that I am a part of a team creating a little something we like to call “The Fantasy Series”. We just shot part 5 of this series a couple of weeks ago, so I will start by catching you all up on this fabulous project! Our fearless photographer, Kristen Booth, is a self-proclaimed fairy tale wedding photographer and this project is really her baby. It truly shows her brand and the ideal bride that her amazing talent would be perfect for. I’ve shown you parts 1 and 2: “Ethereal” and “Queen of the Marine”. Now, I give you our third installment: a magical shoot we called “Secret Garden” that included a pink dress, lace suspenders, and a horse!

Hair and makeup done by the third party in our team: the wonderful and amazing Celeste of Celeste Styling and Artistry. This girl has amazing talent and should be hired by everyone. Go call her! You will NOT be disappointed. Thanks so much also to Brooke and Kirtane, our gorgeous models. We couldn’t have done any of this without your talents!

Anyhow, without further ado, I give you “Secret Garden”, a love story in the spring.

Tutorial || Summer Shirt Refurb Series #3

Hey all!

Here we are with another t-shirt refurb! This tutorial is much simpler than the galaxy print. All you need is a tee and a good pair of scissors! This style is another muscle tee with a modified design… can you tell this is my favorite style lately???

Well, let’s get started, shall we?

~~

For this style, I recommend an extra over-sized t-shirt, something you are swimming in!

I found this Tina Turner “Wildest Dreams Tour” shirt at a thrift store near Dallas. I love it because of the huge monochromatic portrait of Tina on the front. Here it is in its natural state: large and in charge.

Image

This large size is perfect because of the length, but the width and sleeves are definitely not flattering. Let’s do something about that!

Step 1:

Lay out the shirt on a flat surface.

Image

Step 2:

Fold the shirt in half lengthwise so that the sleeves and corners are matched up like so:

Image

Step 3:

Starting from the top of the shirt near the shoulder, cut straight down the shirt. When you have neared the bottom of the shirt, cut on a curve to the sides of the shirt. Your cut should look like this:

Image

You’ll see why we left the corners like this later.

Step 4:

Cut around the neckline of the shirt to your desired design.

Image

One trick to keeping the neckline even on both sides is to cut straight down from the center of the collar to your desired depth. This trick will work whether you are cutting the shirt into a v-neck or scoop neck.

Image

Here’s my finished product. Make sure you cut all around the entire collar!

Image

I wanted the neckline of mine to cut into Tina’s hair, plus a bit of a deeper neck is a bit more flattering for me personally.

Step 5:

Tie the sides together.

This is where that bit of extra fabric comes in! Put your shirt on as-is. It will be more of a poncho than a t-shirt at this point. Take the bottom two corners on each side of the shirt and tie them together into small knots. Pull tight and you’re almost done! (A picture will follow shortly)

Step 6:

Make any necessary adjustments.

Since you have your shirt on already, take a look in the mirror and decide whether this is the final design you desire. You may want to trim off a bit more from the shoulders or alter the neckline. Once you’ve made the alterations you wanted, you’re finished!

Image

You can see the small knots at the sides of the shirt on the bottom.

Here are a few shots of the finished product on me!

As you can see, the sides are completely open with only the knots joining the shirt on the bottom.

I hope you enjoy this design! I love how easy it was to make.

Remember, if you try this, please show me! Hashtag #summershirtrefurb on Twitter or Instagram @patternsonwalls. I’ll try to be back soon with another design!

Happy summer!!

Sneak Peek: Styled Black Swan Inspired Fashion Shoot

Hello, hello, hello!

Well I have yet another sneak peek to make you drool. Recently, the awesome Sarah Sotro of Sarah Ashley Photography hired me to do wardrobe styling for a Black Swan inspired fashion shoot. When we met to go over the ideas she had for the shoot, I was incredibly thrilled! Here’s just one shot from the day, featuring our “Dark Swan”.

There will be more to come soon enough. Let me know what you think!

Fantasy Series Styled Shoot: Queen of the Marine

Ohhh my, my, my, it has been far too long since I’ve posted. And THIS particular post is much overdue as well.

If you all remember the Ethereal styled shoot back from a few months ago, that particular shoot marked the start of The Fantasy Series with the lovely photographer, miss Kristen Booth, and the also lovely hair and makeup artist, miss Celeste Bernabe. These awesome ladies and I got together again for number two in the series, and it was honestly beyond anything we had expected. As you can tell from the title, this is an ocean-inspired shoot with a nice kick of fantasy. Kristen found the perfect location for this shoot AND an amazing trunk that looked like it washed up from a pirate ship! Everything was pitch perfect and I am so honored to have been a part of it.

I know it’s cold outside right now, and it may seem odd to post a summer wedding inspiration the week of Christmas, but let’s just say if you’re getting married this summer, we’ve got some ideas for you! Plus, I think looking at beach-scapes helps to warm the soul a little as well.

Enjoy! ❤ ❤

The ring

Every queen must have her crown, so I made one! This baby was both my biggest obstacle for this shoot,

and also my pride and joy after actually completing it.

Our queen with her crown…

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is our veil. When Kristen came to me about the theme for this shoot, I immediately thought of using a net as a birdcage veil. With the help of some pearls, a starfish, and a few shells, this baby looks like its straight from the ocean.

If any readers are interested, I could do a DIY post on how to make and personalize your very own! Just comment below and let me know if that would be something you’d like to see!

Lastly, Kristen has this awesome idea to put a very nautical-looking book we found right into the water. Once she did, the waves actually washed over it and turned the page! This was the striking result:

I hope you all enjoyed viewing these as much as we enjoyed making them. For you ladies who are having a summer wedding, you could always consider having an ocean theme, then you could rock a fishing net as a veil! 😉 If you’re daring enough, you can make anything work for your wedding. I believe that brides should add those types of details to their own special day to make it even more special.
